He goes on a pilgrimage to the tomb of a Sufi saint Mu'in al-Din Chishti (referred in the movie by his honorary title Khwaja) to ask for spiritual guidance on how to make his country prosper in peace. Years later, after another battle, the now adult Akbar (( Hrithik Roshan) defies his tutor for the first time, deciding that mercy, respect and diplomacy will be his way of gaining influence. The film won the Audience Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the SГЈo Paulo International Film Festival, two awards at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival, seven Star Screen Awards five Filmfare Awards and two National Film Awards, in addition to two nominations at the 3rd Asian Film Awards. Upon release, it was a critical and commercial success.

ДЇilming began at Karjat and the film was released on 15 February 2008. Rahman composed the musical score and it was also a musical hit. Set in the 16th century, the film centers on the romance between the Mughal Emperor Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar ( Hrithik) and the Princess Jodhaa Bai ( Aishwarya) who becomes his wife, on a marriage of convenience. It stars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, with Sonu Sood, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Ila Arun in supporting roles. Jodhaa Akbar is a 2008 Indian epic historical drama film co-written, produced and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
